Lupus Foundation of America
Lisa Prospect
When we began working with the Lupus Foundation of America, the national organization was small and without
a track record of success. Lupus is a disease that has no known cause, it's difficult to diagnose, the
side-effects of the treatments are harsh and cause disability. It strikes mostly women in the prime of their
life. It's a cruel mysterious disease. The stories of people with lupus work in the mail. We created a package
several years ago, which has evolved through constant testing and improvement into a package that humanizes
the disease, highlights the organization's success and why the Lupus Foundation of America needs you. Over
the years, we have tested several ways to improve the package - constantly testing variations on the size,
packaging, messaging, etc. Significant results in testing have lead to the current package. Highlights of what
was successfully tested in this package over the years include: (1) blind carrier without the organization's name
and address but with a quote from the lift note of a woman living with lupus, (2) the "Lisa" lift note, (3) a "test
yourself for lupus" bookmark insert, (4) primary letter signed by a medical doctor (vs. the organization's CEO),
(5) a membership card in package, and (6) congressional petitions.
